The Finished Object!! They liked it!
Here it is. My daughter's and my version of a Log Cabin Quilt. If you are a kosher quilter, you'll see that not all of the squares are "Log Cabin" squares. We've got some Courthouse Steps and Windmills in there, too. (As well as some that we just made up.)

Originally, I was miffed after reading that some knitters abhor the combination of knitting and crocheting. Given the time constraints we were working under and the stability provided by single crochet "binding" on the squares, I would probably do it the same way again.

(Except I doubt I'll EVER do anything this big again!!)

Darling Daughter delivered it to Dear Son and Daughter-in-Law last weekend. DS called Sunday and seemed to like it. He said DSIL had wrapped up in it to watch TV. I am proud to say that the Knitter's Review Retreat Crowd gave it a rousing round of applause.
A new quilter was amazed and confused that we had KNIT "quilt squares". I didn't think it was that different an idea!
