Illustration Friday - SEA

Here are two photographs from a friend that I photoshopped.
Waves are hard; but a sea with waves is, um, just a lake!



Now then: see what happens when I work more from scratch? There seems to be a lot wrong with the picture below (though there ARE aspects I like). So much so, that I don't know what I could do to fix it, besides start from scratch. Now, that's no big deal when it's all digital, but if this HAD been on a half sheet of Arches, I would NOT feel that great about scrapping it!

Any recommendations about what keeps it from working (or better yet, what would help (!) would be most appreciated.

The third one is my favorite...the movement, the bold black outlines, and those particular shades of blue.
