Illustration Friday - E = Expired NOT
When Dear Husband and I returned home from a model railroad show, this cedar waxwing was laid out on our front walk way as if in offering. We don't get them here often, and it's my understanding that they usually travel in small, NOISY flocks. There was no sign of any others.
I hope it isn't an "offering" by the stray cat in the neighborhood which has been making eyes at our indoor cat.
Notice the variety of colors, the very dark eyebrow, and the shockingly bright yellow tail tip.

Every living thing is amazing.

We ran the sprinklers. It's been 25 days since rain... and it was balmy. And we had a singles scene with a large block of Robins in our back yard. I'd only seen them en masse like this once before. Apparently they all hang out to see who they want to hook up with later in the Spring.
These doves, docile and rather dumb, seem to already have paired up. They must have gotten used to our 70 degree weather, as today (in the 50's) they were all puffed up and fluffy.

This is to the left of the front door... The dessicated leaves of our Japanese Maple never dropped. I wonder if they'll get pushed off the twigs when (and if!) it buds later in Spring.
The Holly berries were particularly bright after being washed off with the sprinklers.

My husband loves Cedar Waxwings. He has some kind of weird other-world connection with them.

I almost wish the cats would eat them - it would make it seem more justified!

Holly berries! :-)

Include me in the list of bird lovers. My sister is the real bird person, though. She goes weekly to a nearby forest preserve that needs migrating birds and tags them, then studies the return vistors. Very cool.

Usually, I'd say it was too early for West Nile, but be careful. Sigh.

I hate to find dead birds. I love watching the living ones too much.

Yep, I SnB with Wenders. The firetrucks stretched just up to our apartment, but the fire was across the street and behind a building from me. It caused quite the commotion though!

I wish I would see a bird that isn't a sparrow, pigeon, or seagull. I miss seeing all the colorful birds.
