Holiday 2005 Version of Getting to Know Your Friends
I took this from Crafty McGee .
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot Chocolate, although I love eggnog. When I buy eggnog it lasts about 5 minutes and I'm usually wanting to put bourbon or rum in it. Hot chocolate is much "safer"... especially since I found the secret to lowfat MOCHA mix!!
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
WRAPPED. Definitely. Half the fun is guessing.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
I prefer white. DH likes colors... a mix is fine.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Nope.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
When it feels urgent. I try to have things settled in either by mid month, or before company comes.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
I love it all! Grilled cheese sandwiches like my father made, Crepes Suzette like my hubby makes. Lasagna. Turkey. I never met a carb I didn't like.
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
Lying on the living room couch watching the revolving tree go 'round. (My mother made an artificial tree from a rattan cone interwoven with holly, lights and glass balls. come to think of it, we rarely had a "regular" tree... though I seem to remember going to Christmas tree lots and looking for the right one.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?I think I always knew.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
I was an only child. Sometimes I got to open 3... Mostly gifts sent by out of town relatives.
10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
Santa doesn't expect cookies at our house any more. When the kids were home, he tended to get pizzelles and carrots (for the reindeer.) I think as a kid, the request was for Oreos!
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Both. People in Dallas go beserk with snow. And it's usually ice anyway.
12. Can you ice skate?
Poorly. I never wanted to BE Peggy Flemming, but I went to school with her little sister.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
I remember the one year I actually found the "big" gift before Christmas. I felt so guilty and miserable and afraid I'd be found out when I had to act "surprised" on Christmas Morning..
14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Feeling connections with family, friends and strangers. There's an optimism I don't always feel otherwise. It makes me hope that world peace IS possible. Ironic, isn't it, that religion cause so much conflict rather than peace...
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Irish Coffee, or anything with Kahlua and/or chocolate.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Riding around looking at lights with my husband.
17. What tops your tree?
A cornhusk angel.
18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?
Giving. (though I love surprises)
19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol?
In the bleak mid-winter... Especially with brass choir with the Gustav Holst setting. The words are by Christina Rosetti.
20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
Yuck....

In the Bleak Midwinter! I'm teary...really. I so love this song. Every time someone asks me for a favorite holiday song and I mention this one they look at me like I've grown two heads. Ok, it's not jingle bells. :-)
I think I'm going to steal the list. Hope that's ok.
I love this, and love learning more about you, even though...I'VE KNOWN YOU MY ENTIRE LIFE! :) Heehee. I am going to steal it, too.
Love reading your blog. Thank you for stopping my mine, too. And thanks for the suet and thawed water tips - I can't wait to start building birdie houses, hopefully this weekend, weather permitting. Nice Blue entry too.
