Cat peering into fireplace
Originally uploaded by Sultry

Since we'd had snow (for the first time in 80 years, they say) on Christmas Eve, and it was still cold on Christmas Day, we got wood for a fire and enjoyed gathering around the hearth as the day wound down. The cat was fascinated and watched, basked and stretched out in front of it from the time it was a blaze of (mostly) gas, to when it was just embers. I wonder if she thought their glow was the glow of some other creatures eyes among the ashes?

I enjoyed watching her almost as msuch as I enjoyed the fire.
THAT's what Solstice is about: Warmth, togetherness, hope.
