Petal WIP: study for values Photoshop

I think I'm being distracted by the colors in the painting. wo I've reduced it to black and white and am fiddling with the shapes and shapes of gradations.
This is another reason I'm loving photoshop. It only takes a click or two to capture the edges, an will only take clicks to fill in the different shapes with different tones and shades.
