Bloomin Peony

I have no idea HOW many petals this has. If you look large, it has dirt spatter from the recent heavy rains. The ants don't seem to have done any damage, but they sure were all over it.

Amazing how a gardener (of any vintage or skill) can go ape over a single blossom if it is new, different or unexpected.

i have good news about the ants and the peonies...the ants are good for one thing and that is opening the peony flower - the bud is sealed shut with sweet sticky sap and the ants eat it off - this is the only way the bud opens! So ants are not all bad right?? my 8 year old thinks that is so fascinating...
