Advent lessons and carols

THIS put me in the holiday spirit!
An "old" friend and I attended the Service of Advent Lessons and Carols directed by Joel Martinson. I've always thought that church would be better with more music and less talking. Tonight was perfect: twice as many carols as lessons, and the lessons were SHORT! The choirs (adult, and handbell) and string group (2 violins and 2 cellos) were pitch perfect and enthusiastic. The few interspersed prayers emphasized the evaporation of fear, recrimination, blame and fault. Truly the advent of something worth celebrating... Although there were a few words about how that wouldn't happen until houses were empty, hills depopulated and land desolate.
The church has added wooden baffles to warm the tone of the music. Their new organ should arrive by mid 2009, and the new building is supposed to be certified for occupany this week.
Magnifique!
