Studio Session: Clouds

Today I painted. At Bonny's Studio. This is my second pass at an impression of the beach in Delaware with dramatic clouds. The process is strange. One can get caught up in lapping the paint strokes gently, gently over one another, and lose the drama. Or one can get loose and dramatic and lose control. And of course there are considerations regarding hue, tone, shape, repetition, rhythm, etc.

I plan to add grasses and maybe some wildflowers... I think I'll do it in photoshop first! I don't want to overpower the clouds, but I definitely want a contrasting texture in the foreground.

DH asked a powerful question this evening: "Why do you want to paint?" And he pressured me to come up with an answer in less than 5 seconds. I don't know, and yet I know I want it all: Fun, success, recognition and appreciation. Every time.

HA! No wonder I get nervous. I think I'll concentrate on fun and skill building while I'm in the process and distribute my paintings as widely as I know how. The "success and appreciation" aren't up to me anyway.

Comments are most welcome.

Lovely cloud!

And what's wrong with wanting to paint....because you like painting?

Clouds are very hard to paint! Yours is beautiful. You captured that sense of buoyancy that is so difficult.

And you paint because you have to. That's all. :)

I think this is really a nice painting. I love the movement in the clouds. It has a lot of energy to it.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and taking the time to comment. Keep painting!
