And DH and I apparently have "issues."
Who would have guessed?

He had emailed the boy, (the same one who is now going to teach physics) regarding which of his jetsam we could jettison.
Like us, he wanted to hang on to his books. He wants his HS band letter jacket... but he thought everything else could get "tossed."
Which left us with a bass drum, a small amplifier, a snare drum, a gazillion jewelcases for CD's, some legos, school assignments from Montessori school, an acrylic painting of a train, and assorted stuffed toys.
DH was smart enough to know that mom (that's me) would want the painting. We'd discussed the CD cases and drum stuff. (Goodwill, eBay or something quick and easy). In my mind, only what nobody could use would go into the trash.
What he didn't aske me about was the Legos.
So when I heard them going into what turned out to be a TRASH bag, I raised my voice and said, "You're not going to throw the Legos AWAY are you?"
It's all resolved now, but obviously he hadn't had the hours of pleasure watching DS learn fine motor skills, increase his ability to make boyish sound effects, and expand his imagination. Nor had he been a single parent who paid exorbitant amounts of money to buy what ever Lego's marketing department had promoted from Christmas to Christmas.
The Legos will find a place in my home-office until grandchildren are in existence and old enough not to swallow them.... Or if grandchildren aren't in my future, I'll mail them to DS and let him find a student in one of his classes with a little brother or sister who could use better motor skills, imagination and sound effects. (I always liked the pirate set the best myself.)

agreed; no tossing legos - for one they cost too much to get that kind of collection. I have an empty nest but when they return sometimes they will pull out the stuff like this and spend time with it. i also keep thinking eventually I will make some 3-d something or other and glue it together.
Random wacky idea du jour -- when and if DH builds a house, put one Lego in the ground of the framed-out foundation before they pour the concrete.
Murry (my sweet hubbie) and I had souvenir pennies from the San Jacinto Monument, and we did that when they poured the concrete here.
Embedding good memories from old times in new places...
