Illustration Friday - Sticky
This was another topic where I wished my drawing skills were better. Must get back to work with Danny Gregory's Every Day Matters assignments. As it was, I saw an article in today's paper about healthy snacks... mostly fruit popsicles, with an accompanying photograph. I have digitally fiddled and fiddled with it. I don't know if it looks any stickier, cuter, artistic or anything else than the original, but it took me HOURS. (And I included the reject below.)
Darling husband thought THAT one looked like a mutant.
(The child in the photo was darling... NOT a mutant!!)
Comments welcome!

kids can stick anything to themselves- and then to the furniture and you!
You communicated the idea very effectively. Very expressive and colorful photograph.
Like the bottom one best. You captured the stickiness of the situation. :-)
Fun and unusual! Also, made me want a popsicle. Mmm . . . popsicles. . .
They both look like they've made a sticky mess of the popsicle. The top one makes me think of crystalized sugar...very sticky!
You asked for comments so here goes :), as a buyer of illustration and as an illustrator I much prefer the bottom image. It has your original line work. I would recommend toning down the background and just take that line and do a one or two colour treatment that lets the line speak for itself. This month's HOW magazine has a great article on drawing/journaling that is right on this kind of thing - it may even be by Gregory. And yup, those popsicles are brutal - I have been coerced into buying some for my kids that stain their faces so I can only shudder at what it does to their insides!
I can almost feel how sticky this kid is ~ yikes! Brings back memories of childhood, good summer memories...
I think you just nailed the definition of sticky! Love the colours in the popsicle, makes me want to have one (without the stickies though).
I actually prefer the bottom one. More interesting design.
Interesting illo--I like what you did with it digitally. The colors and textures are great! Thanks for stopping by my blog and your nice comments.
