Illustration Friday - Rain

This got really fussy in a hurry...which I didn't like. The initial sketch seemed so simple and obvious.
Well, at least the ducks look happy...

it is interesting how pieces take on a change of their own and it just has to make you scratch your head and wonder; why this time; why not yesterday?

The other day on my blog you asked a piece of advice that most got me to the point I am and I have been thinking about it for a few days. I would say it is to challenge myself. When I won all those awards it wasn't to win the award but to challenge myself to learn something that I had not known how to do before. I did not give others the opportunity to challenge me or to suggest the way to go to me; I did it myself. This worked wonderfully for my clients and in helping me grow and learn things -- but the thing that shocked me the most is that other designers were not happy for me. It took forever for me to realize that they were discouraging me from challenging myself because it made them appear less motivated. Now that I no longer work for 'the man' I find the greatest problem being unlimited ideas; rather missing the boundaries and the deadlines. Even though it has been about ten years I still seem to wait for someone to call me up and tell me a deadline - and I would really like to lose that!

Thanks for asking; it was good for me to reflect on that question.

this looks happy and fun and yes the ducks do look happy and the girl seems to be skipping to the beat of the rain!

Happy ducks make all art great.

Oh wow, I love the ducks too! They would make a great little piece all on their own.

I'm glad that Illustration Friday has put me on the trail of another art blog that includes genuine conversation about "stuff" going on inside our heads - and lives.

Yes the little ducks are enjoying the rain, the young woman looks a bit put off by the raindrops-she doesen't seem to notice the rainbow, and it's so close Love your artwork, and a interesting piece of work as well.

I know what you mean-sometimes a work of art has a mind all it's own.

I love the colors and the happy ducks! The girl looks like she's trying to join in and dance with the ducks.

This could look really overworked but I think it still works fine, partly because you've stuck with a limited palette and the original drawing was evidently strong. It might be worth posting the drawing as well. Excellent concept nicely carried through - there's a lot of joy in this picture!
