Illustration Friday - Remote

At first I thought this was cheating. There was no image that came to mind that would convey distance or isolation --- that I had a PRAYER of drawing. (Maybe I should play some more pictionary... I always manage to come up with something under duress!). So I went the "concrete" route. And then the composition was... well, just crying out for something to fill in the upper right hand corner... and there it was!

This is more what I envisioned when I first thought of "remote."

You know what I've done? I've gone off in another dillettantish direction. Rather than practice practice practice drawing, or useing watercolors, or knitting, I've sent myself off in a digital direction.

Apparently I'm not someone who "goes deep" but rather someone who remains shallow but covers a lot of territory.

As always, your reactions and comments are invited. I am a lifelong learner!

"...and the forced that draws dogs to the groins of strangers."

aside from the good laugh, i really like your style. and the hypersaturation in this illustration appeals to me. (plus...there's LOTS of red.)

I'm agree, tv is a universal force.
Gret illo, love the simple palette (but effective) you've got.

Your shallow but covering a lot of territory digital 'remote' has turned out REALLY well. Those clouds are beautiful ... when in a plane this same image has often passed my mind. Passed because VERY remote idea indeed.

Your remote is most beautiful...the color is so enticing. Love the houses in your other piece too!

very witty:D i love your direct, smartass approach to this, gave me a great chuckle. very touchable textures as well, especially that marshmallowy foreground of the second

Cool remote- I watched "Network" again recently. I think they should make every kid watch it in High School. "The tube... you all worship the tube!"

though a tv remote pops into the head easily for this idea, your design easily keeps it from being commonplace. the design, color, and choice in the positioning of the numbers is great. the comment in the corner just adds even more. great job of taking an average idea and making it extraordinary (not an easy thing to do.)

I really enjoy the second illustration. It evokes a certain weightlessness. Like perhaps the houses are floating on clouds, and this remote place is more dreamlike than reality.

I like both, but the remote control is as effective as the idea to represent it.

Both strong compositions with good use of colour. Yep, those "remotes" sprang to mind for me as well. I really like your pic with the houses though - this would be wonderful painted and hanging on the wall!
