Illustration Friday - Depth

With apologies to all the structural engineers out there....
I obviously had too steep a learning curve to figure out the "line" functions in PhotoShop... or to learn "real" drafting techniques. Although I must say, this looks much better in the tiny thumbnail than it did "full screen." Yipes!
This is my rendering of the Rio Grande Gorge near Santa Fe. I have never had such vertigo as when I walked across this bridge... (I hung on to the rails for dear life and about jumped out of my skin at the vibrations when a car actually ventured across.)
The dark part is supposed to be the shadow of the right hand land mass. From this angle you can't even see the bottom....
See a virtual panorama here.
Comments welcome.

Thats actually quite peaceful looking and yet i know that its a huge drop and i should be feeling vertigo - I hate bridges!
I too have hung on for grim death

The colors are just wonderful! I haven't been on this bridge, but there was a rope bridge in Northern Ireland where I felt that way - I think what made it hard was that you COULD see the bottom...and all the rocks. There was a good bit when I thought I might live on the wee island that it went out to...at least there were sheepies, no?

Anyway, I also thought not so realistically about this picture - don't you think sometimes that life gives you the depths, and you have to decide if you are going to be your own bridge, find another way, or trust someone else to be a bridge for you?

Looks good to me
You won't find me on a bridge like that walking. No way.

Oh my! I looked at that panorama of the bridge and i actually felt ill sitting here at my desk. I admire your courage for even venturing out on it! This illustration actually made me think of a bridge in some fantasy land...the colors are almost other-wordly, and the whole feeling of vast distance is both serene and a bit eerie. It's very effective!

I remember the bridge well, having lived in Taos for a while. My favorite spot to paint the Rio Grande Gorge was the rest stop and picnic area about ten miles south on the main highway to Santa Fe.

Thank you,

Henri

You did such a great job on it! So great! Thanks for the warning, too, about that bridge. You're so visual in your words as well. I'm glad you made it across safely!

The slight engenerring discrepancy enhances the drawing- it gives it a look of a future technology, where there can be longer spans between the suspensions.
