Illustration Friday: Aging

As usual, this isn't quite what I intended... but I've learned as much as I can from this iteration. What I do like is the ambiguity about whether the gray haired dame is remembering her own youth, marriage and motherhood, or whether she is watching her grandchildren and children. I am also astonished that the cat actually seems to be ON her lap. I also learned that even the briefest DRAWN sketch scanned in helps me keep the composition/and photoshop "painting" under control.

Observations and suggestions for improvement welcome.

Thank you so much for the lovely comments you left on my sight. Being a truly uninhibited nerd, I am surprised I did not make the Matthew Fox connection. I love your illustration- it is a proud "aging"- one full of love and reflection.

I love the thought of being a fiesty old lady rocking in my chair reliving my wild days and watching my children and grandchildren grow.

The duality works very well here, if you wanted to jazz it a bit, I would make the sizes of the figures different, some larger some smaller and overlap them a bit (with the grandma)to reinforce the idea of memory and family.

Also, I love feisty Texas women, I think Ann Richards is a big influence on my work. ;) I also love the gentrified courthouse squares, if only they had a few book stores around them along with soda shops and an art gallery, a perfect place, no? Of all the Texas towns I have lived, Austin is my favorite. :)

I love to read your posts about how you're dealing with the chemo, you go, strong feisty lady, I love the cap, wear it with pride! ;)

I like how your illustration looks like a memory. Very well done. The soft color and flowing composition work well together.

And on an unrelated note to I-Fri, good luck with the chemo. My Mom and Godmother have both gone through bouts with breast cancer. It's a tough road, but you can get through it. Take care!

Sultry Painter Woman, you and I are on the same quote-wave, but such very different interpretations!
