Value in Imitation?

I am concerned about the ethical issues of doing my own version of well known painters' paintings. I don't think I'm robbing anybody of any "sales" or profit, and I'm being truthful about what I'm doing.Apparently there's a long tradition of "copying." What do YOU think?

.
I don't know how long it will take before I can count on being as happy with my own compositions as those of others. I selected this from a file of artworks at Bonny's Studio, and she identified it as Diebenkorn.. but I haven't been able to find any on-line copies of the particular image I was working from.

I think that if you're using some one elses work as starting place to improve your own skills it's more of honor than a robbery.

i agree with holly. the fact that you are acknowledging the name of the artist and that it is for learning honours the artist. this has been the method of learning for a long long time. I do lots of it from artists that i admire. there is so much to learn.
