Saturday I'm scheduled to consult with a dressmaker and possibly buy fabric for my M.O.G. dress. I browsed a bit this afternoon. There was fabulous Dupioni iridescent silk at about $40/yard. I also found lovely synthetic peau de soie for less than half that.

The bride will wear white. The attendants pink, Mother of the Bride in pink. I'm not really a pink kind of woman. Red? yes. Turquoise? yes. Black? yes.
Do you think I can do raspberry or fushia or mauve without coming across like the evil fairy in Sleeping Beauty? ALL of the samples below had pink, rose, or mauve in the name of the hue. Some of the dupioni silks have contrasting threads and look iridescent. The mauvish one (top row, far right, is actually pink and green (!) combined.

I think I would really like a dress the color of a radish, new potato, plum or cranberry. Maybe the spines on chard.

My advice; chose a fabric that best conveys exactly who you are. Pick the color that moves you, makes you feel like that glorious, wise woman that is you. Who wants to be pink if everyone else is pink? (I am not a pink girl, either.) How often does a woman have the chance to pick fabric and have a dress made? It ought to be a grand, fun experience. The MOG always gets lost in the crowd when she ought to be a beautiful force to be reckoned with.
Or, the purple is lovely. :-)
ma,
wear whatever color you want. just not polka dots or plain or something SUPER crazy. you don't have to match. you want to wear turqouise? wear turqouise! you want to wear red? wear red! do what you want ma!
Now I'm hungry AND I want to dress up. Such yummy choices! I'm sure that whatever you choose will be gorgeous. I like the irridescent silk myself. HOT.
Wear the color that makes you happy. Enjoy the new dress and get what YOU want.
:o)
