IF-Primitive
He didn't think he was bitter,
but he had an uneasy feeling that his reliance
on ammo, religion and the flag
might be insufficient, inadequate or or just plain wrong.
He didn't know how they'd help
if he were ever confronted with a really big problem
like cancer or an asteroid or his son getting killed
or his wife leaving or his daughter being assaulted.
Sometimes Granpappy's reliance on bourbon made a lot of sense.

fantastic, really amazing work!
Good job... very interesting commentary...well worded...:)
I happened upon an interesting editorial this morning that, coupled with your post, illustrates the differences between perception and reality.
"Trigger Happy" by Arthur C. Brooks

It seems like a subject you are interested in, so I thought I'd share the link.
Blaw's link leads to an interesting editorial indeed. The fact that my DH would like to purchase a gun makes me think that the editorial writer is on to something. Lots of gun OWNERS may well be more about self-reliance than revenge. Until convinced otherwise, however, I think that the more we "cling" to any thing, the less we rely on ourselves.
