Abstract Learning

Bonny "hosted" an abstract painting class this afternoon. As per her usual style, there wasn't all that much "lecture" or instruction, but good handouts (lots of quotes) and freedom to do, try, and ask questions.

After warming up with making "emotive" marks on paper with charcoal sticks, we started applying paint. Some used brushes, some used palette knives and some acrylic painters used squirt bottles.

I had a wonderful time trying to be emotive, then find shapes, then balance colors and textures. Bonny says the painting is "done" when there are no "unresolved issues." AS IF!!!
How can my painting have no unresolved issues, when I have so many?!!

This looks better to me close up than from a distance.

It was amusing to listen to what other people thought it "was." Bird and feather got surprising numbers of votes. As for what I was thinking?
I'll never tell!!

I like this, I really do. I like the mucky yellow against the zingy pink. I LOVE the arch across tying it all together, and the tree trunk in that great strong blue (and all sorts of other colours if I look closely) slicing across and thrusting up. If that all sounds a bit arty farty, sorry. I'm just rambling as I look. But yeah, I like it.
