Mixed Feelings. Mixed Media.

These two pieces started as plein air sketches with gel pen and sketch book. then I scanned them and tried to paint in a watercolor styule with Photoshop.

I am quite happy with the lily. the palette is severely limited, there is good contrast, the shape is fairly interesting, and colors are complimentary.

The Iris on the other hand, inspite of having a marvel to sketch, has turned out badly.I know there's a great deal that could have ben ignored -- or fixed--!I don't like the color contrasts as I have painted them. . It was Clear and breezy with strong sun. Suggestions for improvement are MOST welcome.

Hey there, stealing a minute away from Quiet Time, but couldn't resist sharing my $0.02.

Try this:
Select the flowers and punch up the contrast and/or deepen the blue-violet and yellow.

Then:
Select the background and make it paler and yellow-green or just yellow, same as the yellow in the flower only lighter.

I think it just needs more jewel-toned drama, and the suggestions above may help create that.

I LOOOOOVE the top sketch!

I like the iris... perhaps a very light yellow wash in the background? (very light...just a tint)
