Do you know where your punctas are?
Neither did I. I didn't even know I had any!! And humans have four (4).
Turns out my opthamologist is a perfectionist. First, she checked me over about three times when I had a PVD (Posterior Vitreous Detachment). My symptoms were mild: A sort of flash one day and then a pretty good sized floater that never went away. Oh great.... they're pretty much inevitable sometime after age 50. @#$%!! I have one in the other eye to look forward to.
Then, she wanted to address my Dry Eye Syndrome. She recommended Refresh Liquigel, which definitely improved how my contacts felt AND how well I saw out of my old contacts. Then she said she could permanently fix the problem and eliminate the need for drops with punctal plugs. Yeah, like I knew what that was. Turns out you've got little drainage holes in your eyelids (different from where the tears come in), and if you put a plug in the lower ones, your eyes don't dry out.
I'd had eye surgery when I was 12 and I was a bit freaked out, but DH came with me and Dr. Amazing put the eensy little plugs in in a "blink of the eye." HA. Less than a minute. No pain due to great numbing drops.
I also read that dry eyes are more common in people who eat lots of sugar and fat. Another reason to stay on my food plan.
In case I suddenly start producing tons o' tears, the procedure is reversible. (In the old days they would cauterize the duct. EEEEK!)
