try to love one another right now.“
or bang some pots and pans in honor of Miss Molly.
"We are the people who run this country," she wrote. "We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, 'Stop it, now!' "
In whatever time I have left, and I hope it is ample, I think I'm going to try to be more like Molly Ivins.I want to be intrepid, optimistic, sharp, clear eyed and clear hearted, and whenever possible, funny.
I want to be as courageous as she's reported to have been. My cancer journey hasn't been with the virulent sort she had. In that I was lucky. But three rounds of chemo, surgery, ratiation. Having done it once, I cannot fathom the sort of grit must one have to be able to describe it this way:

"Having breast cancer is massive amounts of no fun," she wrote. "First they mutilate you; then they poison you; then they burn you. I have been on blind dates better than that.
She also said
cancer(is) a disease that "can kill you, but it doesn't make you a better person."
I heartily agree. It doesn't make you more spiritual, kind, generous -- although I don't believe it necessarily makes you any worse. I'm glad I slowed down and took a closer look at my pale, bald self, scarred and burned and unfamiliar, long enough to think about what made me "me" and to make whatever changes were required when I wasn't completely satisfied with the answer.
Will you join me? It'll be good fun and great company!

"Keep fighting for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce."

Up to the walls of Jericho
She marched with a spear in her hand
Go blow them ram horns she cried
For the battle is in my hand
The walls have not come down, but they have been given a serious shaking.
That Jericho voice is stilled now.
Molly Ivins has been quieted.
