I am one who....
Soul Cards

Last Sunday an art therapist friend introduced me and a bunch of like-minded women to Soul Cards. They function in a way that is a cross between Jungian archetypes, Tarot Cards, and just plain creativity. Each participant had a unique role and response, but each of us shared elements of our experience, too. I enjoyed noticing which images I loved and which others picked the same ones. I enjoyed hearing a bit about WHAT in the images attracted the other women. Unlike some art projects, this art seemed to call to me, rather than me directing it!! If you'd like to make your own, here's my pared-down "recipe":
  1. gather some friends together, each of whom have some magazines
  2. put on some interesting music
  3. let images from the magazines "pick you" and cut them out
  4. avoid words
  5. spread out everyone's picked images on a table
  6. each person picks three or four images from the whole collection (doesn't matter who cut them out)
  7. cover an entire card (ours were 5.5 x 8 inches) with the images, cutting as needed
  8. spread out everyone's cards on the table
  9. each person picks the card which most speaks to them
  10. let the card "speak." (Imagine the card begins by saying, "I am the one who....")
I think it would be wonderful to have a group that did this process on a monthly basis. One would no doubt discover themes recurring in the cards, and in the individuals' choices.

I wonder if a group could do this online with imgages they've found online.

I wish I had a group of women to do this with in real life, but I've just not connected after my marriage and moving to Houston..

sigh
