Marian the Librarian would Faint!

Last weekend I went to a gathering of Registered Art Therapists.
Their stated intention was to alter, paint, glue, college and DEFACE (!!!!!) books in order to make art. I had a horrible time making the first Xacto wound in my book purchased for this project.

And then it was just SO much fun!
I haven't finished or polished all the pages yet... but it is sort of tribute to where I started and where I am now and where I want to end up. I can hardly wait to do one for birthday presents, or other "big events" in the lives of those I love.

Faux feline spots... as in"Tthe Leopard can change hers" are on the cover. I'll probably embellis with gold braid, rick rack or beads eventually. Too much is not possible with "art."

I like the idea of a big shocking pink YES near the beginning of the "story." At this point, I had no idea what the significance would be of the bi-plane and 18-wheeler.

And then, guess what? I found a photo-shopped skyline of my home town that was THE PERFECT SIZE to fit on that truck.
It means something about being on the move, combining old with new... but definitely moving on. (It must be synchronicity that I just found Sara Ben Breathnach's new book by the same title!!)

This is me when I was FIRST learning to
"move on."
Already proud to show cleavage... Or maybe it was the photographer's request?

Here, I have carved a niche in the book. I am waiting until I find the perfect thing to put there.... I may have to get clamps, glue and a router to make the niche smooth. Maybe line it with fabric?

Anyway it sure is fun!
Love the Ceramcoat paints.... Liquitex Medium in lieu of glue and everything.

Thanks, friends.

I went "hunting" at Half Price Books yesterday. In the clearance area there are tons of 25 cent, 50 cent and 1.00 books that are perfect for altering. I went with a friend that alters alot of books and she gave me this advice- make sure it is both sewn and glued in the binding to avoid disentigration. I found a book titled "The Queen's Confession" which will make an intersting alter! And some children's board books that are perfect for altering. Have you been to Recollections? I went for the first time yesterday- for 15 bucks you can use all of thier tools (punches, etc.) and they provide dinner! We should go sometime!

I've wanted to do this, but I've yet to get up the courage to draw on, or cut a book. It's some ingrained feeling.....I guess like you say, just jump in there and make that first cut!
